Viewtalk website
Viewtalk is a product from WinkBall which offers to add British Sign Language signing over existing videos to aid accessibility.
I created the site from a Photoshop mockup using HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript.
Student Video Services website
WinkBall Student Video Services offers cheap video content creation for universities and colleges. It also provides and online directory for educational institutions to help prospective students choose a place to study.
I created an HTML5, CSS3 and jQuery site to promote the products, as well as building a PHP based admin system for maintaining the SVS Guide section.
The Savile Row Tailor website
I designed and developed a Wordpress based site for this Savile Row based bespoke tailor to replace an existing site. I combined his blog and shop websites to create a central point where he could write about his business as well as attract new clients.
GMG Radio Radioplayer consoles
I designed and developed the Radioplayer console skins for the three GMG Radio brands: Real Radio, Rock Radio and Smooth Radio.
Each brand's console had to fit the existing brand guidelines and also had to advertise online content to encourage people to visit the websites. They also had to be coded in a way to not alter the core console code to make future upgrades as straightforward as possible.
Radioplayer website
The Radioplayer projected needed a central website. A design was created and then passed to me to develop into a working website. I developed the site on WordPress to make it easy to maintain and much of the required functionality could be added quickly using existing plugins.
I wrote the HTML templates and CSS to turn the Photoshop mockups into a WordPress theme. I also wrote the jQuery to power the 'Browse' section and adapted the Radioplayer console search code to integrate it into the site.
GMG Radio iPhone app design
Working to some basic wireframes, I designed the UI for the Real Radio, Rock Radio and Smooth Radio apps for iOS. I wanted to keep close to the standard iOS UI so it would be immediately familiar to users, but also give it some personality of its own. The app also had to be kept fairly simple to keep down development costs.
As well as designing the graphics, I also developed the 'Contact Us' and 'Schedule' pages. These are actually HTML pages, so I had to create them to look like iOS app pages. I also adapted my previous GMG Radio mobile site designs to work in the 'Website' tab.
Radioplayer initial design
I was involved in the early stages of the Radioplayer console design when we were trying to come up with a concept of an online radio station player which could be skinned to reflect any radio brand. I worked at the BBC as a representative of commercial radio to ensure the designs reflected our needs.
We initially tried two approaches: to make the whole player skinnable with common controls at the top, or have a fixed top section with only the area below skinnable. My job was to design the latter.
The design needed to be neutral so that it would fit with the wide range of brand colours of the various radio stations. It also had to be clear and easy to use so people new to online listening would feel at home with it.
The results of both my and the other design were then used as the basis for the final console design.
Sideways Film Website
A new film distribution company wanted to launch with a website to attract business through the internet. The aim was to showcase documentary films to potention buyers as well attract producers to distribute films through the company.
I went with a minimal design to make the site content really stand out. The stunning stills from the films were enough to make the site look good without too much decoration.
GMG Radio mobile sites
At GMG Radio we only had the main station websites which were not very suitable for viewing on a mobile device, so I was tasked with creating mobile versions - one for smartphones and one for simpler phones. I designed and developed new templates which would still run on the existing back end code.
In both cases I went with a clear and minimal look to make them fast to load over a mobile network and easy to see on a small screen. With the smartphone design I could afford to be a bit more adventurous as I could assume these platforms would support things like JavaScript and CSS3.
The smartphone sites were featured in the November 2010 issue of .NET Magazine
Rock Radio website
I was given a fair amount of creative freedom with this design. To try and capture the feel of a rock station I decided to make the site look like bill posters on the wall outside a music venue. I also used 'grunge' design techniques to fit with the feel of the station. I then built the templates to fit on the existing back end code.
The artwork from this site was then used by the marketing department to promote the station.
Smooth Radio website
The site had to appeal to the target audience of 40-59 year olds, so I decided to make it quite simple and elegant. The station was also running a sleeve face campaign so I reflected this with piles of vinyl records around the edges of the site. The brand colours of pink and purple are very strong so I tried to tone them down so the appearance of the site would not be too overwhelming.
I also created the templates for the site to work on the existing back end code
Real Radio website
Real radio is a brand spanning five regional stations around the country and they all share a common website design. The websites needed a refresh so my task was to create a new site that would fit the existing back end code.
The brand is lively, chatty and fun so I wanted to design a site that reflected this. It had to be colourful, friendly and easy to use.
The Film Clinic website
This film restoration company were looking to boost their business through internet traffic, so they needed their site to be redesigned and brought up to date.
I designed and developed the site to showcase the work they did and to attract new business.
